Un projet de la compagnie Terracanto basé sur les collectages de Alan Lomax et Diego Carpitella en Italie en 1954-55
//
A project by the Terracanto company based on Alan Lomax and Diego Carpitella’s collections in Italy in 1954-55.
In its new quintet project, Compagnie Terracanto follows in the footsteps of historian Alan Lomax and ethnomusicologist Diego Carpitella, who set out in 1954-1955 to survey the Italian peninsula in order to capture the oral songs of the peasant world, then in the process of being lost. After many years of exploring the roots of Italian folk tradition as a trio, Terracanto has teamed up with two musicians with singular musical backgrounds, Timothée LE NET on accordion and Florian HUYGEBAERT on percussion, to reinterpret some of the songs preciously collected on tape by the research duo.
The fruit of extensive archival research, this new creation features a collection of carefully selected titles, reworked with original arrangements and compositions, and a fitting and respectful tribute to the archaic voices of the peasant world that the Italy of the time wanted to forget.
